Operations: Firefighters are focused on completing contingency lines, continuing mop-up operations and transitioning into suppression repair efforts.
On Sunday, crews strengthened contingency lines west of the fire near Black Butte and north near Green Ridge. Contingency lines provide a secondary line of defense in case the fire crosses primary containment lines. Crews also continued suppression repair operations around the fire area, using heavy equipment and hand crews to fill in and grade roads impacted during fire operations. This work will continue today.
Total acreage increased by 62 acres due to more accurate mapping of unburned pockets in the interior of the fire area. The Akawa Butte Fire remains 85% contained.
Weather: Dry, colder weather will continue today. Fire weather concerns could return midweek around Wednesday and Thursday.
Smoke: Smoke from wildfires around central Oregon may affect air quality in Sisters and surrounding communities in the late afternoon and evening. For a complete smoke outlook, visit: outlooks.wildlandfiresmoke.net/outlook/6aaf6480
