(Sisters, OR) – “As fire behavior moderated the night crews took advantage of the change in the weather and built direct control line whenever and wherever possible,” Night Operations Section Chief, Adam Sinkey, shared at morning briefing.
Last night structural task forces focused on point protection and removing remaining debris from around structures in the active wildfire area in preparation for the forecasted dry and windy period ahead. Firefighters installed hose in the southern portion of the fire near Indian Ford Road and Wilt Road. Work will continue along Forest Service Road 11 to build a contingency line.
Today’s focus is working to establish a continuous control line around the fire perimeter, while simultaneously preparing contingency lines. Structural task forces will strengthen lines established around structures and support wildland efforts. Crews will work to secure the control line south of SW Jordan Road in preparation for a forecasted wind shift from prevailing north-northeast to west-northwest by noon today. With increased visibility and additional assigned aircraft, firefighters on the ground will be supported by aerial resources with an emphasis for aircraft use in the southern portion of the fire, north of Sisters.
Multiple road closures went into effect yesterday including Middle View Road, Indian Ford Road, and the section between Green Ridge Road and Meadow View Road. Central Electric Cooperative has deenergized power to homes on Stevens Canyon Road to Pine Glen Road and north of Indian Ford Road. Winds were calm last night and relative humidity reached 100%. However, relative humidity will drop to an estimated 30% by midday and temperatures will reach the low 90s. A drying period will continue into the weekend accompanied by sustained winds.
