Sisters, Ore (July 29, 2026) – Night crews responded quickly to put control line around a new fire last night along SW Fly Creek Road. Work will continue today to ensure the fire is fully suppressed and no longer a threat.
Mop-up work continues with crews making good, thorough progress deeper into the fire area. Crews have achieved 75 to 100 feet of their 300-foot depth goal around most of the perimeter of the fire.
Today is the last day for Oregon State Fire Marshall’s Red Team on the Akawa Butte Fire. The hard work and dedication of firefighters saved numerous structures in the path of the fire. Containment around all structures is complete and wildland firefighters will continue to patrol the area.
The public is asked to take caution and be aware while driving in the region due to increased fire activity and heavy fire equipment. Closed areas and evacuation orders are in place for public and firefighter safety. Thank you for slowing down!
The public support from last night’s community meeting was shared with firefighters and support personnel at this morning’s briefing. We are incredibly grateful for the support of the community during this firefighting effort.
