There are approximately 4,722 personnel assigned to the 9 large fires across the state, not including many of the local and agency government employees, landowners, forestland operators, and members of the community who are contributing every day.
Initial attack remains ODF’s top priority.
Prevention: As we already know, fire behavior this season is extremely active and continuously changing. Even with the rain, now is NOT the time to become complacent.
Help your wildland firefighters by preventing the next human-caused wildfire. The easiest way to do this is by checking your local fire restrictions and brushing up on your wildfire prevention knowledge. Remain aware of weather conditions and any red flag warnings in your area. Sign up for emergency alerts at ORalert.gov.
Weather: Low pressure will persist over the Northwest through the weekend, but steady rain will turn more showery by Friday. Shower coverage will gradually decrease through Sunday.
Today’s Highlight: The fun has begun at the Oregon State Fair! Before you check out all the food carts this year, plan to say “Hi!” to Smokey Bear in the Natural Resources Area and visit Oregon Department of Forestry’s booth. Help celebrate milestone anniversaries of two programs that help protect Oregon’s forests: Tillamook Forest Center (20th anniversary) and South Fork Forest Camp (75th anniversary).
Take time to decorate wooden Tree Cookies, learn about the Emerald Ash Borer, and sport a (temporary) tattoo of the nasty green beetle that’s destroying Oregon’s Ash trees.
