PRINEVILLE, Ore. (July 27, 2026) – After the Brewer, Green Mountain and Crosswhite fires merged yesterday, the incident name changed to Rowe Creek Complex-West Zone for fire operations west of the Wheeler County line. When wildfires merge, they take the name of the larger wildfire at the time of the merger, the Crosswhite fire, which is in the West Zone of the Rowe Creek Complex in this case. Moving forward, all incident reports and maps will refer to Rowe Creek Complex-West Zone.
Overnight, fire activity remained high and continued to challenge firefighters; although, firefighters were able to make progress on key focus areas. Today will be a crucial day as crews try to stop growth to the north end of the fire around Trout Creek and hold control lines along the south to keep them from directly impacting Hwy. 26.
Along the west and northwest perimeter of the fire, crews continued mop-up operations to cool the fire’s edge and build containment. They also caught and fully lined two spot fires that started outside of the fire perimeter by lofted embers. Today, they will continue mop up and patrol the fire to knockdown fire activity.
On the southern edge of the fire, north of Prineville, firefighters were challenged by advancing fire. Overnight, they continued to build line between McKay Creek Rd. and the ridge towards Green Mountain. Those operations will continue today.
Overnight, crews were able to successfully remove fuels along Hwy. 26 down to Forest Service Rd. 27 and hold the fire along the highway. The highway remains closed to traffic in both directions for safety purposes while crews work around the highway. Please check www.tripcheck.com for updated closures and openings. Crews hope to tie into the Mill Creek area.
To the north, the fire spread has been held to the A-Y Road and scouting continues on the northeastern edge where resources are surging to hold the fire near the county line between Crook and Wheeler Counties.
Structural task forces are concentrating patrols in neighborhoods south of the fire line, evaluating structures and prepping them against any ember cast lofting across fire lines. Homes and cabins along Mill Creek and Johnson Creek roads are fully prepped, and Marks Creek will be a focus for today. Crews remain highly mobile and ready to response to changing winds and conditions, as well as assist wildland partners with any needs to secure lines. Firefighters continue to work day, night, and swing shifts to surge resources during critical burning periods.
Today, residents should expect to see multiple columns in the early afternoon and through the evening.

If You Fly, We Can’t: Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR):
A “TFR” is in place for the fire area daily (24 hours) until further notice. Flying a drone near or around a wildfire is illegal and compromises the safety of both pilots and firefighters and interferes with firefighting efforts. If you fly, we can’t. All illegal drone use will be reported to law enforcement.
