Rowe Creek Complex containment increases to 92%
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (August 26, 2026) – Overnight, engine crews patrolled across the fire area for smoke and remaining heat. Three Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) modules continued infrared mapping to help identify hot spots and support efforts to further secure control lines. Sustained progress from mop-up operations has increased containment to 92%. Each percentage point of containment represents approximately 6 miles of secured line.
Today, firefighters will continue mop-up and hazard tree work in the Mill Creek and Duncan Creek areas. Crews working west of U.S. Highway 26 will focus on locating and extinguishing remaining smoke and heat. Suppression repair will continue throughout the fire area, while contingency work continues east of U.S. Highway 26. Chipping operations are also underway along Oregon Route 207 between Mitchell and Service Creek. Motorists should use caution, reduce speeds and follow all posted traffic controls where firefighters and heavy equipment are operating.
California Interagency Incident Management Team 4 will assume command of the Rowe Creek Complex as part of a planned transition as the Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 2 concludes its assignment. The California team will in-brief today and assume command of the incident Thursday at 6 p.m. Both teams are coordinating closely to ensure a seamless transfer of command and continuity of operations.
Safety
Fire suppression and repair operations continue to increase traffic on area roadways. Drivers should remain alert for firefighters, engines and heavy equipment. Please stay out of closed areas and avoid activities that could spark a wildfire.
Weather
Widespread smoke is expected during the morning and again in the evening. Temperatures will reach near 92 degrees, with west to northwest winds of 5 to 11 mph and gusts up to 22 mph.
