Fire information
Operations are focused on snagging and mopping up the north end of the Patton Meadow Fire, the critical area that was burned out over the weekend. All evacuation advisories were dropped yesterday. A significant glidedown of resources starts tomorrow. The fire is located on Fremont-Winema NF, BLM and private lands.

Smith Fire, 8,767 acres, is highest priority fire in complex and evac advisories were issued for residential areas threatened by fire. OSFM is sending two task forces to assist with structural protection. Smoke is limiting use of helicopters and bombers.  Active fire behavior. Timber resources and private lands affected. Most of the complex is located on the Umpqua NF. Road, trail and area closures in effect. Florida State Red IMT will assume command of complex Wednesday.

Fire information
Active fires in complex include Chaos, Near Minky and Jack. All fires located on Umpqua NF. Operations focus on keeping Chaos Fire from moving north and west toward mining areas and private forestlands. Smoke limiting air operations. Active fire behavior. Road, trail and area closures are in effect.

Containment lines holding on west, north and east flanks. The southwest and south flanks continue to be active and containment strategies include building direct and indirect fire lines with crews and dozers. Road systems being used for contingency lines when possible. Fire is located on Umpqua NF and private lands.

Fire information
Crews on the Kwis Fire continued mopping up the west flank to further reduce threat to Oakridge. Work on the Gales/Ninemile Fire focused on burning out fuels on the north/northeast flanks, building indirect fire line on the south/southeast flanks and mopping up the west flank. Goal is to limit spread to north/northeast. Active fire behavior. Timber resources and structures threatened. Evacuations in effect and road, trail and area closures.

More information

  • A firefighter died yesterday on the Middle Fork Complex. ODF and OSFM extend their deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen firefighter.
  • More than 2.5 million acres have burned in 92 large fires and complexes in 12 states. The wildfires in California and the Northwest continue to burn actively. Residents in communities near 16 incidents remain evacuated this morning. Currently, 26,383 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the country.
  • Weather over the state continues to be moderate with temps and humidity near seasonal norms, which should persist through the week. Winds in central Oregon expected to increase somewhat today.
